Welcome to the Japanese Culture Institute

The Japanese Culture Institute is a non-profit corporation established in McHenry County, Illinois as an educational center for the study of Japanese culture.

Since 2008, the Institute has provided thousands in our community with educational programs, classes, lectures, retreats and training for all ages and has been successful in building a spirit of cooperation and harmony among people of various cultures.

Members and visitors of the Institute have experienced the many benefits of the study of Japanese culture, have enhanced their contacts and have made many new friends. Families have found the Institute to be a great place to learn and to spend time together.

Working with other businesses and coordinating events and programs with other organizations provides an opportunity to grow and emphasizes the commonality of the human experience.

We offer classes in traditional studies such as tea ceremony, calligraphy, martial arts such as Aikido and Iaido, as well as Japanese language classes and Zen meditation studies. Our programs include the study of various aspects of Japanese culture, including contemplative practices, mind-body disciplines and cultural arts that develop the human being and serve as paths of self-realization.
